HSBC online banking login

HSBC online banking is available to every HSBC UK personal customer. You need your username, your memorable answer (selected characters from your security answer) and a one-time code from the HSBC Digital Secure Key built into the mobile app.

What is the Digital Secure Key?The Digital Secure Key is a feature inside the HSBC UK mobile app that generates a temporary six-digit code each time you log in. It replaced the physical card-reader-style device that older HSBC customers may remember.

How to log in to HSBC online banking

  1. Visit the HSBC UK website.
  2. Select Log on in the top-right corner.
  3. Enter your username and continue.
  4. Enter the requested characters from your memorable answer.
  5. Open the HSBC UK app on your phone, tap Generate Security Code and enter the six-digit code on the website.

Once logged in you can view balances, transactions, statements, sort code and account number, move money between your accounts, pay UK and international beneficiaries, manage cards and update your personal details.

Online banking will log you out automatically after a few minutes of inactivity. Never share your username, password, memorable answer or Secure Key code with anyone — HSBC will never ask you for them by phone, email or text.

HSBC mobile app login

The HSBC UK mobile app is the default way most personal customers now bank. It is free to download from the App Store and Google Play and lets you do almost everything you can do online plus a few extras (Apple Pay/Google Pay set-up, card freeze, instant card delivery in some accounts).

How to log in to the HSBC UK app

  1. Download the HSBC UK Mobile Banking app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Open the app and select Log on.
  3. Enter your username the first time; future sessions can use a 6-digit PIN.
  4. Confirm your identity with Face ID, Touch ID or your PIN.

Compatible iPhones and Android phones can use biometric login (Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint), so you do not have to type your password each time.

HSBC business banking login

If you bank with HSBC UK Business Banking, you use a separate platform called Business Internet Banking rather than personal online banking.

  1. Visit the HSBC UK Business website.
  2. Select Log on.
  3. Enter your username.
  4. Enter the requested characters from your memorable answer.
  5. Generate a six-digit code from the HSBC UK Business app or a physical Secure Key device, and enter it on the website.

HSBC UK Business app login

The HSBC UK Business app needs to be linked to your Business Internet Banking profile once. Once linked, you log in with a passcode, Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint, exactly as you would in the personal app.

Lost your Secure Key?If you lose your phone or factory-reset it, you can re-activate the Digital Secure Key by logging in to Business Internet Banking on a computer and reactivating the app, or by calling the dedicated HSBC Business support team.

Logging in to HSBC from abroad

You can log in to HSBC online and mobile banking from anywhere in the world. If you are abroad with a UK SIM, watch out for international roaming charges; connecting to a known Wi-Fi network is usually safer and cheaper.

HSBC may occasionally block a login from a country you have not used before as a security precaution. If that happens, call the international number +44 1226 261 010 (available 24/7) to unblock your account.

HSBC login problems

If your HSBC login is not working, the quickest path back in is usually a self-service reset rather than a phone call. Use the links below to jump to the right step-by-step in our online banking guide.

Watch out for phishingHSBC will never call, text or email you asking for your password, memorable answer or one-time code. If a "bank" contacts you and asks for those details, hang up and call the official number on the back of your card.
