Confirm eligibility
You can request an unlock if your device is paid for in full (Pay Monthly), your minimum term has ended, or you bought the handset outright. PAYG handsets bought from Tesco Mobile are eligible after 6 months of use on the SIM.

Sign in to My Tesco Mobile
Web or the My Tesco Mobile app. You need your account password, not just the phone PIN.

Open the Unlock page
In My Tesco Mobile, go to Account → Unlock my device. The page lists the phone tied to your number and confirms whether it is eligible.

Submit the request
Click Request unlock code. Tesco processes the request and sends you an unlock code or an instruction set by email within 7-10 working days. Some newer iPhones unlock automatically over the air; you do not need a code.

Apply the unlock
For most Android phones: insert a non-Tesco SIM, enter the code at the prompt, the phone restarts and any UK SIM works. For iPhone: insert a non-Tesco SIM, connect to Wi-Fi, the unlock applies automatically (no code needed).

Confirm everything works
Make a test call and a test text on the new SIM. If the phone still asks for an unlock code or shows "SIM Not Supported", call 4455 free from your Tesco SIM or chat in the app.

Never pay for an unlock
Since December 2021, Ofcom rules ban UK networks from charging customers to unlock a phone, regardless of contract type or how long ago you bought the device. If anyone asks for a fee to unlock a Tesco Mobile phone (a third-party site, an "unlock cafe", an unlicensed retailer), it’s a scam.
Always go through Tesco Mobile directly (My Tesco Mobile online, in the app, or by calling 4455 / 0345 033 0000). They will not ask for your full password, your debit card PIN, or any payment.

Is unlocking a Tesco Mobile phone free?
Yes. Under Ofcom rules effective since December 2021, all UK mobile networks (including Tesco Mobile) must unlock customer phones free of charge once eligibility is met. You may also do it free at any point if you have already left Tesco Mobile.
How long does a Tesco Mobile unlock take?
Tesco normally sends the unlock code by email within 7-10 working days. Some recent iPhones unlock automatically over Wi-Fi within 24-72 hours of the request, no code needed. If you have not heard anything after 14 days, chase via live chat in the app.
Can I unlock a Tesco Mobile phone if I left the network?

Can I use a non-UK SIM on an unlocked Tesco Mobile phone?
Yes. Once unlocked, the phone accepts any SIM from any country: another UK MVNO, a European SIM, a US prepaid SIM, etc. The unlock removes the carrier lock entirely; it does not affect any other software security on the phone.
